“ Monster Energy Kawasaki Team Green Rider Jamie Lanza captured the win in the Pro 2 class aboard his KX-450Fat the sixth round of the WORCS series at Zaca Station MX in Los Olivos, Calif. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Nathan Woods took fourth in the Pro class while teammate Ricky Dietrich secured fifth.
Lanza put in an impressive ride earning his second win of the season as well as the series points lead over teammate Josh Morros. Teammate Ryan Abbatoye also rode a strong race and joined Lanza on the podium in third place. Morros was not as fortunate as a crash in the dusty conditions caused a DNF.
In the Pro class, Woods who was coming off a round five win, had high hopes of putting together another dominated ride at his hometown track. However, after a poor start, he found himself struggling through the dust with the front runners pulling away.
Woods charged through the pack putting together consistent lap times. With third in sight he gave it all he had and came up just three seconds shy in fourth.
Man, I really wanted to pass (Ryan) Hughes for third, said Woods. It was so close.
Dietrich, who made his return at Zaca Station, was ready to put in a podium finish. He looked to be on his way after grabbing the holeshot, but tender blistering hands proved to be too much for the champ. He was forced to back it down and settle for fifth.
I knew my speed was good. I knew my conditioning was good, said Dietrich, the reigning WORCS champion. I felt I had what it would take to make it on the podium. However, I didn’t expect my hands to be a problem.
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Destry Abbott, who currently sits fifth in the Pro standings, was hoping to gain some valuable points in Los Olivos but a first-lap crash sent him back to the truck.
That’s the hardest I have crashed in a long time, said Abbott. The dust was so bad that I just could not see. It’s disappointing because I was feeling so good going into this race and my trainer and I have been working really hard. I guess that’s racing though.
Kawasaki off-road legend Larry Roeseler was on site to lend the team a helping hand and was able to capture a win of his own in the Senior 50+ class riding a KX450F.
The Monster Energy Kawasaki team will be back in action for round seven of the WORCS series in Toutle, Wash., June 8-10.
