The special bonus event for NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle competitors will be held during the 54th annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals, the world's most prestigious drag race.

Screamin’ Eagle Riders Hines and Krawiec in Ringers Pro Bike Battle Field at Indy
Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Eddie Krawiec advanced to the second round of eliminations at the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway and secured a spot in the 10-rider Countdown to One, the five-race playoff that will determine the NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion. The Countdown begins Sept. 11 at the NHRA Carolina Nationals at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. Screamin’ Eagle/Vance & Hines rider Andrew Hines has also qualified for the Countdown.

Maple Grove Raceway, Mohnton (Reading), Pa. August 15-17
Steve Johnson of Irondale, Ala. rode his Snap-on Tools/WyoTech Technical Schools Suzuki to a semifinal round finish at the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in the Reading suburb of Mohnton, Penn. on Sunday afternoon, a finish that will help cement Johnson’s place in the NHRA Countdown to 1 championship program. Only the Top 10 points earners will be eligible for the POWERade championship following the next race, the prestigious U.S. Nationals over Labor Day weekend in Indianapolis. The 22-year veteran of Pro Stock Motorcycle drag racing is currently 9th in the standings, and is unlikely to be bumped out of the Top 10 at the race everyone calls simply “The Nationals.”

It was Ellis' second quarterfinal finish in the past five races and he remained No. 3 in the point standings. One race remains until the beginning of the Countdown to 1, the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series six-race playoffs for the championship.

Chip Ellis qualified the Schumacher Electric Suzuki in the top half of the field today at the 24th annual NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway outside of Reading, Pa. Ellis enters Sunday's eliminations from the No. 2 position for the sixth time this season and has qualified in the top half of the 16-bike field for all 11 of the scheduled 17 Pro Stock Motorcycle events so far in the 2008 POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Schumacher Electric Suzuki Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Chip Ellis reached the semifinals for the fifth time in 10 races today at the 27th annual NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway. He lost for the first time in three meetings this season against Angelle Sampey in that round after he was disqualified for a red-light start. Ellis solidified his hold on No. 3 in the point standings with the effort, which included setting top speed of the race of 191.10 mph, posted during qualifying.

Despite a 9th place finish in the 2007 NHRA POWERade points standings, Steve Johnson of Irondale, Ala. acknowledges that last year was a disappointment. “We didn’t qualify for the Countdown to the Championship,” he said. “Nothing else mattered. We’ve worked all season to make sure that doesn’t happen again. Right now we’re okay. We’re not a lock to make the Countdown, so every qualifying run we make this coming weekend at the NHRA Lucas Oil Nationals in Brainerd, Min. is critically important, and every round of racing on Sunday is even more so.

Reporting from the NHRA Fram Autolite Nationals, Infineon Raceway, Sonoma, Ca. July 27
“I knew Angelle (Sampey) was going to be tough,” said Steve Johnson of Irondale, Al. after a first round foul start that ended his day, “but I just pushed the ‘Tree too hard.” Johnson’s early departure from eliminations temporarily put a hold on the charge that began two races ago with a semifinal round finish, and then a final round appearance in the most recent Pro Stock Motorcycle race in Denver.

Ellis suffered a red-light start that kept him from having any chance of advancing to his third final round of the season. It was his fourth semifinal appearance of the year and he maintained the No. 3 position in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series point standings.
